Our Commitment to the Future

California Redwood Company and Green Diamond Resource Company were founded on the concept of sustainable forestry. Fifty years ago, many companies sold their land after they had harvested trees. Green Diamond ’s founders saw this as an opportunity to invest in the future. They purchased these harvested lands and grew new forests in Northern California, mostly redwood—the fastest growing commercial softwood in North America.

Green Diamond and California Redwood Company are committed to the American Forest & Paper Association's Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI). California Redwood Company's source for most of the trees from which its redwood lumber is manufactured is SFI certified forests.

Green Diamond Resource Company forests are monitored and managed to ensure that the wealth of renewable resources and the health of the wildlife continues for the benefit of future generations. This work is done by licensed professional foresters and wildlife biologists.

In April 2001, an independent, third-party audit was conducted on Green Diamond's wood procurement activities by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP with a team of independent experts in the fields of operations, silviculture and wildlife habitat management. The audit certified that Green Diamond meets the objectives of the SFI Program in all material respects.
