Installation

Redwood decking should span no more than 24 inches for standard decking and 16 inches for diagonal decking. Leave 3/16 of an inch between deck boards to permit debris to drop through the gap. Use only non-corrosive hardware with redwood such as stainless steel and hotdipped galvanized. Hidden decking fasteners are recommended with California Plus decking for the professional apperance they provide.

Finishing

Redwood looks better and lasts longer than other woods without any finish; however, the periodic application of a protective finish extends the beauty and service life of redwood. No other domestic wood accepts and retains finishes better than redwood. Finishes for California Plus redwood decking should contain a water repellent, a UV inhibitor and a mildewcide and should be specifically formulated for walking surfaces.
