A long history behind us. A longer one in front of us.
Planning for not just our generation, but for future generations has always been a benchmark of The California Redwood Company. And it’s especially true when it comes to our commitment to the environment and sustainable forestry practices. We’re proud of our connection to our sister company, the Green Diamond Resource Company. Like us, they trace their roots back to 1890. They also have a long history of environmental stewardship and a reputation for having some of the more progressive and innovative, voluntary forest and wildlife management programs in the industry. So when you select a product from The California Redwood Company, know that you’re not just buying a beautiful wood product, you’re buying something that’s sustainable and renewable.
Ahead of the curve.
Our major wood supplier, the Green Diamond Resource Company, takes its responsibility to the environment very seriously and has dedicated itself to knowing more about its forests than anyone. It’s led them to invest heavily in their conservation department, adding experts in virtually every discipline from wildlife biologists to herpetologists to geologists, botanists and fishery biologists—all of them working in tandem with the federal government on habitat conservation plans. It’s the kind of dedication that led Green Diamond to become the first privately owned timberlands company in the nation to be awarded a Habitat Conservation Plan for the Spotted Owl by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Being around redwoods for 120 years only makes you love them more. There’s something truly special about redwood. And its uniqueness goes beyond its magnificent size and beauty. The species is a fascinating one, possessing rare regenerative abilities and an amazing tolerance to fire, insects and other elements that often destroy lesser trees. And when you consider they grow naturally only in a narrow 20‐mile wide swath along the northwestern coast, you can see why we find them so special. And it’s why we’re so committed to making sure we’re able to enjoy the beauty of redwood today. And forever forward.
